Google Assistant is a popular voice assistant across the platforms. It is designed for making digital life easy and comfortable by scheduling daily tasks, playing music, and answering different types of questions. But this Google virtual assistant also has an odd habit of popping up often without any reason that can be frustrating for many. For this good reason, you can turn it off. Turning off Google Assistant

If you don’t want to live with Google Assistant anymore, you can completely shut it down. Follow the below instructions to turn off Google Assistant on your device completely.

  • To turn off Google Assistant entirely on your device, you have to launch the Google app on your phone.
  • You have to hit on the More option located in the lower right area.
  • After clicking on the More button, you have to hit on the Settings.
  • Now hit on Google Assistant.
  • Go down to the option called Assistant Devices. On some smartphones, such as Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, you have to go through the Devices option. After all, find and click on the device on which you wish to disable Google Assistant.
  • You will see a Google Assistant toggle button. All you have to do is to turn the toggle button off.

Alternatively, say “Hey Google, turn yourself off,” to Google Assistant to find the required instructions to do it.

How to tweak Google Assistant settings

To tweak the Google app’s settings, head to More and then Settings and choose Google Assistant. But what you will do if you only have to disable some specific triggers. You may have to disable voice commands to stop triggering Google Assistant accidentally, but still, you want to use it in driving. Here are the steps to do so on a Samsung Galaxy phone. If you have another device, the steps may be a bit different.

  • Find the Settings app and under it, click on Apps.
  • Look for three vertical dots located in the upper right corner and hit on them to find more options.
  • Now choose the option called Default apps.
  • Hit on Device Assistance App or Assist App.
  • Here you will find different settings to change, and they can vary based on device type. In the case of a Galaxy S20 model, you will see an option to turn off an on-screen text or image analysis. In the case of the Pixel 3, the option should be to turn off Active Edge.
  • If you want to go deeper, hit on the Gear icon. Click on Voice Match.
  • Now turn off Access with Voice Match but don’t disable the option called While Driving.

Turning off Google Assistant temporarily on smart home devices

To turn off Google Assistant temporarily or regularly for a particular time on smart home devices like smart speakers, smart displays, or smart locks, follow the below instructions. It can be done through Downtime on the Google Home app.

  • Launch the Google Home app.
  • Hit on the Home option and choose a device.
  • Hit on the Settings gear icon.
  • Now click on Digital Wellbeing and then on Schedule.
  • Choose the devices you have to apply this setting and hit Next.
  • Select the days and create a schedule, and hit Next.
  • Decide the beginning and ending times and hit Next and then Done.
